- Wed, 24 Feb 2010 19:05:09 +0000 - There are things that you cannot talk about. But it does not mean that the things would not exist.

- Suomalainen konsensuskulttuuri
- Fri, 19 Feb 2010 16:30:12 +0000 - Sitran strategisen suunnittelun johtaja Marco Steinberg Kauppalehti Optiossa (18.2.2010) hoksauttaa, että kun suomalaiset etsivät uusia ideoita, he perustavat työryhmän jonka he laittavat suljettuun huoneeseen.

- Learning while pursuing shared understanding
- Tue, 16 Feb 2010 10:19:09 +0000 - What is learning again? One approach close to my heart and Ph D is to look at it as something that occurs because of our efforts towards shared understanding in social situations. This effort corresponds to the interactions, such as rephrasing and explaining, which are necessary to co-construct a shared understanding of the domain.

- Heikot signaalit
Ideointivaiheessa mieleen muistuivat valitukset kaikkialla risteilevistä piuhoista – heikot signaalit olivat siis ratkaisevassa [...]

- Dynaaminen asiantuntijuus
Keskeistä on tapa lähestyä ongelmanratkaisutilanteita, lähestynkö ongelmia ylhäältä vai alhaalta käsin?
Vastakohta dynaamiselle asiantuntijuudelle on rutiiniasiantuntijuus, jolle on tyypillistä nojautua [...]

- Creating the new
- Wed, 03 Feb 2010 11:37:36 +0000 - What is learning?
One way to see it is to think of learning as creating “the new” rather than giving back what is already known.
And learning can be seen in the performative – you have not learned it unless you can do it.

- Inventive powers
- Tue, 19 Jan 2010 13:54:27 +0000 - “Even if no one has ever assigned the adjective “original” to anything you have ever done, you must acknowledge that you have inventive powers.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the game puzzles like?
Players are placed in-front of problem situations as a team.
The story of the game is a prison island, where the players should escape. Players have to walk through a gas field, make burner oil, send smoke signals, go through a field full of aggressive dogs, and plan and build a balloon with which they can escape from the island.
The puzzles have been designed to reflect different elements of teamwork, such as psychological trust between team members, coordination of tasks and planning and executing a strategy.
Do I need previous experience of computer games?
No, you don't. Moving with an avatar in the game environment is easy, and there is an area in the game for practicing the use of controls before a game session. The most important skills while playing NoviCraft are communication and social interaction skills, not gameplay skills.
How long does a game session last?
Length of a game session varies between teams, but an avarage team plays it in about 2 hours. In addition some time is needed for after-game-discussion that is recommended to go right after the session. Deeper, consultative feedback can be gone through later.
Where can I buy the game?
NoviCraft game can be purchased as a service directly from TeamingStream. This means that we deliver you the game clients and the account keys that are valid for a certain time period. When booked a game session and received the keys you can connect to our game server with 3-7 player PCs and with the observation PC that will be used by a game master who manages the game session. We also provide several types of customized service packages around the NoviCraft game. Additionally, we provide all-in services that include both a game session and a consultative training session after the game. The training can be realized either remotely or onsite. The NoviCraft game is available in English and in Finnish.
Is this just fun?
It is definitely fun, and much more!
We at TeamingStream believe truly that people who have fun while learning, will absorb much more than in standard lectures. NoviCraft has been developed by a group of academic researchers in pedagogy, leadership and game development, and that research is the basis for everything that happens in the learning environment – that is why it is serious fun.
What equipment do I need to be able to participate?
You need a PC equipped with an internet connection. We recommend that the PC is also equipped with a separate graphics card. Additionally, when playing NoviCraft remotely you need a VoIP connection and a headset.
After booked a game session you will receive the NoviCraft software for download.
